Weinland schweiz: A lot is happening with Swiss red wines

Switzerland produces a wide variety of red wines, and due to the topography and the different microclimates in the individual regions, the style of the wines varies depending on their origin. From Merlot, about Gamay up to the Pinot Noir or as also called Pinot Noirthese are the most common grape varieties. Viticulture in Switzerland accounts for only a small proportion of global production, which is why many Swiss wines are mainly produced on the domestic market are consumed. A small proportion is also exported, mainly to neighbouring countries such as Germany, France and Italy. Quality levels of Swiss wines

The quality levels of Swiss wines are:

  • Table wine Swiss wines in the table wine category must also be labelled "Swiss" ("Swiss table wine"). Additional information, such as details of origin, provenance, wine variety or vintage, is prohibited.
Additional designations:
  • Grand CruIn Valais, the Grand Cru label is awarded to communes that fulfil particularly outstanding conditions. This means that any wine from an awarded commune that fulfils the minimum requirements for an AOC wine can be advertised with the Grand Cru designation.
