75 cl
Robert Parker: 96 points
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Carinena, Garnacha, Merlot, Monastell, Syrah
Vinification:
Very low yields, selective harvesting by hand, temperature-controlled fermentation and maturation in large and small wooden barrels, unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting note:
Complex and fruity, an interplay of blackberry, blueberry and cherry flavours with balsamic and mineral nuances. Intensely fruity (very ripe black fruit), remarkably full-bodied and delicious. Notes of dried fruit, subtle spice and cocoa nuances. Very fine and perfectly balanced mouthfeel. Velvety tannins and a mineral finish.
Mas Martinet:
The Catalonian Priorat was rather tiny and so were the wines. José Luis Pérez, a university professor, made a significant contribution to the Priorat miracle in the 1980s. Together with his family, he founded the Mas Martinet Viticultors winery. They recultivated very old Garnacha and Cariñena vines according to the latest oenological criteria. They also planted Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. Martinet Bru and Clos Martinet are wines from the first hour of the rebirth of the Priorat. In a very short space of time, they have achieved world renown with their modern personality.
With José Luis' daughter Sara Pérez, the second generation took over the helm. Sara inherited her father's uncompromising, rigorous pursuit of quality. The cultivation of the steep slate slopes at an altitude of eight hundred metres is very complex.
