Robert Parker: 93 points
Alcohol content: 15 % vol.
Grape varieties: 100 % Sangiovese
Vinification:
Only the best Sangiovese grapes (known regionally as Brunello) are used for the king wine of Tuscany, Brunello. Fermentation takes place in the composite Horizon steel and oak vats. The wine then matures Red wine from Italy during 2 years to 80% in 60 Hl and 90 Hl French oak barrels and to 20% in 350 litre French oak barriques.
Tasting note:
Castello Banfi:
Castello Banfi is located in the Montalcino wine-growing region between the Orcia and Ombrone rivers. The former castle from the 12th century gave the winery its name. In 1977, the American Mariani family acquired the Banfi wine estate with its historic fortress. Today, the estate comprises around 800 hectares of the best vineyards. Protected by the mountains of the Tuscan Apennines, the slopes of the vineyards enjoy a cool and temperate climate. The nutrient-rich, clayey soil provides ideal growing conditions.
