Falstaff: 91 - 93 points
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
Vinification:
Château Poujeaux has a contiguous plot of 52 hectares. The vineyards are located on a gravel-sand hilltop, which is considered the best terroir in the Moulis appellation. The average age of the vines is around 35 years and they are planted at an extremely high density. The wines are made in a very traditional way. Fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats before malolactic fermentation and ageing for around 12 months in French barriques. New 30-40% wood is used.
Tasting note:
Dark ruby colour, violet reflections, delicate edge brightening, fine cassis touch, floral nuances, black berry fruit, fresh orange zest. Juicy, round and harmonious, fine tannins, finely structured, mineral and stimulating to drink, lemony touch on the finish.
