Robert Parker: 94+ points
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc
Vinification:
The wines are matured for 14 months in 50 % new and 50 % one-year-old French oak.
Tasting note:
Deep garnet purple in colour, the 2016 Saint-Pierre leaps from the glass with exuberant black forest cake, blackberry compote and cassis with notes of cigar, earth and violets with a hint of iron ore. Medium-bodied on the palate, it has a firm frame of grainy tannins with fantastic energy and depth, finishing on a lingering chocolaty note.
Chateau Saint-Pierre:
Founded in the 17th century, this 4th Grand Cru Classé was fragmented and scattered by several inheritances. In 1982, through a combination of luck and perseverance, Henri Martin managed to restore the estate to the way it was known in 1855, the year of the famous classification. Since then, thanks to the commitment of the owners, Saint-Pierre has become recognised worldwide as a perfect representative of the Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Julien.
