Falstaff: 95 points
James Suckling: 96 points
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 80% Merlot, 10% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vinification:
Each individual vineyard and each variety is matured separately for 18 months in barriques (two thirds new). The barrels are then cuvéed, the wine is placed in uncoated concrete tanks for 3 months and, finally, Il Blu is bottled for one year.
Tasting note:
Dark, bright ruby red with delicate violet tones. Initially rich woody spice on the nose, then slightly sweet hints of ripe wild berries and ripe Amarena cherries, a hint of incense, with an aftertaste of grated redcurrants. On the palate with a present fruit core and a radiant finish, immediately present, slightly balsamic hints, full-bodied, currently still very young, will develop very well.
Brancaia:
Brancaia, with 28 hectares of vineyards, lies in the heart of the Chianti Classico region with the two vineyards Brancaia and Poppi. The owners have been the Swiss Brigitte and Bruno Widmer since 1981. Since the late 1990s, their daughter Barbara and her husband Martin Kronenberg-Widmer have taken over the management. Barbara, an oenologist by training, is responsible for production and Martin for the management and worldwide distribution of the wines.Today, Brancaia is one of Tuscany's flagship companies and receives the highest national and international awards every year. The top wine Il BLU has become an integral part of Italy's top wines and is already considered a classic by many wine lovers.
