75 cl
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Vinification:
The Terre de Silex comes from very special soils in the town of Saint Père. The vines are planted on clay soil with flint (silex) from the Cretaceous period. The remarkable concentration of flint in the soil gives this wine subtle flavours of flint. After the harvest, the grapes are gently pressed in the cellar and the extracted juice is left to rest for around 36 hours before alcoholic fermentation begins at a controlled temperature of 15-18°C. These careful steps preserve the unique flavours of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes and allow the wine to develop harmoniously. The wine then matures on the fine lees for a few months until it is bottled in the spring.
Tasting note:
Terre de Silex: one place, one soil, one wine. The Terre de Silex presents itself in a golden yellow colour and opens with a typical nose, the elegant freshness of Sauvignon, with a distinctive flint character. The first impression on the palate is direct and taut, accompanied by a beautiful minerality, a powerful body and an unrivalled presence.
Vignobles Berthier:
Jean Marie Berthier has been cultivating around 9 hectares of land on the picturesque Domaine de Clairneaux vineyard near Sancerre since 1983. The Domaine de Montbenoit was added shortly afterwards, with a further 10 hectares in Côteaux de Giennois. The family tradition is now being carried on by sons Clément and Florian, who are as passionate about winegrowing as their father. Vignobles Berthier concentrates primarily on the cultivation of the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varieties. The exceptional quality of the wines results from the unique gravelly limestone soils along the world-famous banks of the Loire, which characterise the slopes of Sancerre and Giennois. Absolute top wines from one of the best regions in France, if not the world.
