Vinification:
The wine was aged for 18 months in French oak barrels (80 %) and American oak barrels (20 %), of which 30 % are renewed every year.
Tasting note:
A pure Tempranillo with 18 months of ageing in French and American oak. The Tempranillo grape grows on clay-limestone soil. The Astrales has a fresh fruit flavour of blood oranges, silky tannins in the mouth with the fruit of blackberries and flowers.
Bodega Los Astrales:
The "Los Astrales" winery was opened at the end of 2000 on the initiative of the Romera de la Cruz family. They are the third generation of winemakers in Anguix and have inherited a solid knowledge of wine from their parents. With their uncompromising quality philosophy, they have decided to stop supplying grapes to other wineries and instead produce their own wine.
Eduardo García joined the company in 2001 as technical director and gave the project a new impetus with the production of the first Astrales in 2001. After completing his training in France and the United States, Eduardo García combined his work as head of viticulture in family wineries (Mauro, San Román Bodegas y Viñedos, Leda) with the technical management of "Los Astrales" until 2013.
The latest milestone is the arrival of José Hidalgo Togores as Technical Director in 2013. José Hidalgo is not only one of Spain's best-known winemakers, but also the author of the "Viticulture and Oenology Contract", which is used in most oenology schools in Spain and Latin America.
All the vineyards are located in Anguix, a small village at the beginning of the Duero Valley. Anguix has 160 inhabitants, most of whom are involved in the cultivation of sugar beet, cereals and, above all, wine production.
The production of Los Astrales will grow in line with the development of the vineyards and the progress of the construction of the new winery. In the first few years, between 23,000 and 50,000 bottles will be produced. Once the new vineyards have reached their optimum, production will be fully self-sufficient and it is estimated that 100,000 bottles will be produced each year.
