James Suckling: 93 points
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Vinification:
Harvesting and grape selection by hand; gentle pressing and clarification of the must through natural sedimentation of the lees. Slow fermentation at a controlled temperature. Parcial fermentation and maturation for 10 months on the fine lees, partly in stainless steel (50%) and partly in wooden barrels (50%).
Tasting note:
Delicate notes of white flowers and mountain herbs provide a subtle, savoury thread that winds through the flavours of kiwi, pear and tangerine in this vibrant white wine. Dense and finely meshed, with a rich minerality reminiscent of graphite and a slightly chalky texture. Lingering and fresh on the honeyed finish.
Cantina Terlan:
Founded in 1893, Kellerei Terlan is now one of the leading winegrowers' cooperatives in South Tyrol. It currently has 143 members who cultivate 165 hectares of vineyards and produce a total of around 1.4 million bottles. Together with its members, the co-operative has been pursuing a strict quality policy for many years, which has earned them a reputation and recognition on the Italian and international wine market.
Despite its manageable size, the Terlan winery has thus become a firm institution in the professional world and has remained true to its philosophy "We let wines mature". Having time, taking time and giving things time is perhaps the greatest luxury we can have today, when everything has to happen faster and faster. In Terlan we afford ourselves this luxury. Every wine is given the time it needs to mature to absolute perfection. Even for decades.
