Yves Beck: 93 points
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 68% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc
Vinification:
Double sorting of the grape harvest, the first time in the vineyard and then again in the cellar. The whole grapes are then macerated with daily pumping over until the end of alcoholic fermentation and maceration. Maturation takes place in oak barrels on the fine lees for 6 months.
Tasting note:
Chateau la Confession 2019 has a good purple colour in the glass. The nose is fragrant with raspberries, black cherries and redcurrants. Beautifully soft on the palate, with a powerful texture and great complexity and fine, perfectly integrated tannins. Drinkable from 2023 to 2040.
Chateau La Confession:
This winery has been under the management of Jean-Philippe Janoueix since 2001. Over the years, he has constantly improved the quality of the wines. For example, the barrels are pre-warmed before filling and 50 % cigar-shaped barriques are used. The 7.5 hectares are planted with 70 % Merlot, 28 % Cabernet Franc and 2 % Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vines is around 40 years, with some plots planted with Cabernet Franc being 70 years old. The vineyard has a good location, close to Beausejour Becot.
Fermentation takes place in open wooden fermentation vats, malolactic fermentation in barriques and ageing for 15-19 months, preferably in new barriques. It is particularly important to the owner, Jean-Philippe Janoueix, that the wines of Chateau La Confession are offered at fair prices.
