Falstaff: 97 points
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 50% Blaufränkisch, 20% Zweigelt, 20% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vinification:
The carefully harvested grapes were fermented very gently on the skins for 24 days. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is matured exclusively in new wooden barrels for 18 months
Tasting note:
Dark ruby-garnet colour, violet reflections, broad rim brightening. Dark berry confit, underlaid with caramel, delicate woody spice, some cassis, attractive bouquet, rather restrained. Good complexity, ripe cherries, taut, tightly woven, velvety, firm tannins, fresh structure, chocolaty, cherry fruit on the finish, good development potential.
Kerschbaum Winery:
Natural vineyard and soil care, extremely short pruning and strict quantity control form the basis for Paul Kerschbaum's high grape quality. The range is tightly managed and primarily based on the Blaufränkisch variety. In 2007, Paul Kerschbaum was named "Winemaker of the Year" by Falstaff. In the meantime, Paul's son Michael has taken over the reins and the wines are even more precise, fresh and elegant.
