Château Phélan Ségur:

Château Phélan Ségur was founded in 1810 by Frank Phélan, who was of Irish descent. He had the opportunity to acquire the two established estates Clos de Garamey and Château Ségur and bring them together. The château then passed into the ownership of the Delon family, who now run the famous Leoville Las Cases wine estate in Saint-Julien. Pierre and Philippe Van de Vyvere have been the new owners of Phélan Sègur since 2017. In the Saint-Estèphe appellation, Phélan Sègur's 70 hectares of vines are spread over 70 different plots, whose soils are characterised by a thick layer of gravel and clayey sand. The varietal mix is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with approx. 60% and Merlot with approx. 40%, supplemented by small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wines from Château Phélan Ségur are among the great classics from Bordeaux. Powerful red wines that are characterised by a perfect balance of precise fruit, harmonious oak spice and smooth tannin structure and are famous for their potential to age superbly over several decades.
