Tim Atkin: 96 points
Alcohol content: 15% vol.
Grape varieties: 80% Tempranillo, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vinification:
Vinified in steel tanks and wooden barrels, then aged for 16 months in 40% new French barriques.
Tasting note:
Impenetrable purple colour. Black berries, plums, subtle liquorice and roasted notes as well as profound minerality on the nose. Serious structure on the palate with wonderfully juicy fruit. Perfectly balanced acidity and compact tannin structure. Drinking excellently now in its youth, but also has great potential to mature in the bottle.
Hacienda Monasterio:
The extensive estate is located between the two towns of Pesquera and Valbuena de Duero, in a region famed for its quality wines. Since 1990, head oenologist Peter Sisseck and his right-hand man, cellar master Carlos de la Fuente, have defined the style of Monasterio wines. Together they have created cuvées with a full-fruity and remarkably mineral character that clearly stand out from other Ribera wines with their elegant yet intense bouquet.
