Il Falcone Castel del Monte Riserva DOC - Rivera - 2016
CHF 32.00
In stock
150 cl
Vinous: 92 points
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 70% Nero di Troia - 30% Montepulciano
Vinification:
The grapes come from an old vineyard planted at around 200 metres above sea level. Harvesting takes place between mid-October and the beginning of November, with the grapes being strictly selected for quality in the vineyard. Maceration takes place for 12 to 14 days in steel tanks. The young wine then matures for 14 months in 50% in French barriques and 50% in 30-hl barrels, also made from French oak. Before Il Falcone is released for sale, it is aged in the bottle for a further year after bottling.
Tasting note:
Bright ruby colour with a drop of violet. Fragrant nose, very floral, rose petals, orange blossom, also on blood orange, plus fine graphite, also cherries, alternating with leather. On the palate with a lot of finesse and depth, spreads out excellently, tightly woven tannins, extremely elegant and long, splendidly successful.
Castel del Monte:
Rivera was founded at the end of the 1940s by Sebastiano de Corato and soon became the benchmark for wine production in Puglia, thanks in part to the innovations introduced by his son Carlo. With Sebastiano and Marco, the 3rd generation of the family, new energy is now coming into the business.
The vineyards are planted with indigenous grape varieties such as Bombino Nero, Montepulciano and Aglianico, as well as international varieties such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. This means that they are firmly connected to the local terroir, but at the same time in tune with the changing demands of the global markets.
