75 cl
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Monastrell
Vinification:
The grapes are destemmed, crushed and fermented in steel tanks. After 25 days, the mash is pressed. The young wine is matured in French and American barriques for 12 months.
Tasting note:
Youthful colour. Initially somewhat closed, after aeration it reveals a beautiful and pure bouquet: dark fruit, spicy notes, also reminiscent of fine herbs. Full-bodied, rich and full flavour, but very balanced and finely structured. Beautiful aromatic persistence, ends with a fine vanilla note from the barrique ageing. At the beginning of its maturity for savouring, it will certainly improve a little with proper, cool storage. If you ask people in Jumilla about the Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil, many will say "El mejor Monastrell!" as a matter of course. (The best Monastrell!). After all, this enterprising bodega is famous for this and has long been famous beyond the village boundaries. Ever since the Juan Gil Monastrell "12 meses en barrica" broke through the ominous 90-point barrier set by wine guru Robert Parker seven years in a row (2002-2008), its reputation as a specialist for this original Spanish grape variety has spread like wildfire. And this 2016 - a Reserva in terms of its style - is another highlight in a long, successful series of excellent single-varietal Monastrell wines.
