Tasting note:
Le Macchiole's 2018 Messorio is smooth and rich with impressive depth and intensity, all with the softness that only the Merlot grape can produce. This important wine initially develops rich cherry and blackberry flavours, then gently gives way to secondary notes of spice, baker's chocolate and toasted almonds. In the mouth, there is a certain youthful tautness with Merlot tannins that are both firm and soft, but with impressive length. The mouthfeel is impressive as it is seamless and supple, gliding smoothly across the palate.
Le Macchiole:
The 22 hectares of vineyards are extremely densely planted with around 10,000 vines per hectare and are cultivated organically. The grapes are very strictly selected. From the very beginning, the aim of the management was to maximise the characteristics of the terroir in the individual subzones on their own land.
The Le Macchiole winery has received numerous top ratings from wine critics to date. For its many years of service, it was recognised as the best winery in Italy by the Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS) in 2009 and two years later by the magazine Wine Enthusiast crowned winery of the year.
