Robert Parker: 93 points
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Sangiovese
Vinification:
Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks. The wine is aged for 12 months in barriques and large oak barrels.
Tasting note:
This is the historic Sangiovese from Tua Rita, which came onto the market in 1992. The 2022 Perlato del Bosco is 30 years older and offers a dense bundle of aromas of wild berries, wild strawberries, blueberries, blood oranges and blue flowers. The wine is matured for a year in large oak barrels. Over time, it develops an earthy note and rusty nails in a medium-bodied finish. The pleasant freshness of this red wine makes it an ideal accompaniment to pasta and grated Parmesan cheese.
Tua Rita:
Tua Rita has cult status and enjoys an excellent reputation. Not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea, picturesquely situated on a hill in the small medieval village of Suvereto, the initially small artisan business has developed into a modern company over the course of time.
The area under cultivation has grown steadily from two hectares at the beginning to 30 hectares now. Founded by Virgilio Bisti and Rita Tua, the fortunes of the estate have been increasingly determined by daughter Simena and her dynamic husband Stefano Frascolla for several years following the death of her father.
The soils are medium-heavy, stony and loamy, contain clay and sand and are also rich in mineral trace elements such as zinc and iron.
On the 50-hectare estate in Maremma, the vineyards located directly behind the winery are characterised by low and moderately sloping hillsides. Depending on the location, the density of the planting varies between 5,000 and 9,000 vines per hectare.
The Cantina Santadi winery is located in the Sulcis region, in the south-west of Sardinia, just a few kilometres from the beautiful beaches and white dunes of Porto Pino.
Three hundred small farmers, who on average own just one and a half hectares of vines, are advised by experts from the cooperative. One of the most important foundations of Santadi's current success is its commitment to indigenous grape varieties. The realisation that nothing expresses the beauty of the southern Sardinian landscape, its subtropical climate and the warmth of the local people better than Vermentino, Nuragus or Carignano. In addition, this ensures the livelihood of the farmers in southernmost Sardinia and prevents rural exodus.
