Rene Gabriel: 19/20 points
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot
Vinification:
Harvest: first half of September for Merlot, October for Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot Fermentation temperature: 26°C in stainless steel vats Maceration time: 30 - 45 days Maturation: 18 months in French oak barriques, 70% new
Tasting note:
Very dark wine red with violet reflections. The bouquet is characterised by black fruit aromas; cherries, blackcurrants, blueberries, then black olives, dark precious wood, complemented by very fine traces of smoke and liquorice. In the second attack, the bullish intensity is somewhat more restrained and playful, almost perfumed notes come to the fore. There is mint and violets and a fairly clear Cabernet note in the basic aromas. And after a further 10 minutes, it really goes into depth, with tar notes and a hint of turpentine indicating the minerality of this serious yet versatile nose. Fleshy, compact and demanding on the palate.
Fattoria Le Pupille:
The founder of Le Pupille, Elisabetta Gepetti, is not only the visionary of viticulture in Maremma, the southern part of Tuscany, but also a passionate ambassador for the region. The energetic winemaker was instrumental in founding the Morellino di Scansano Consortium in 1992 and subsequently became the first woman ever to be president of an Italian wine consortium.
Of the 420 hectares of the Le Pupille estate, 75 hectares are dedicated to vineyards. On the rest, the original landscape of olive trees, wheat fields and forests is maintained. Le Pupille bottles around half a million bottles. You can be sure of the exceptional quality across all price categories.
