James Suckling: 94 points
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon 15% Merlot 15% Petit Verdot
Vinifiaktion:
Matured for 14 months in French barriques, aged in the bottle for 6 months
Tasting note:
Restrained blackberries with liquorice root, slightly leafy eucalyptus and integrated graphite. Full-bodied with elegant, velvety tannins, crisp acidity and a tight-knit structure. Power and extraction, but a good, toasty finish with a sweetish tobacco aftertaste. One of the best examples of 2022.
Podere Sapaio:
Podere Sapaio was born in 1999 in Castagneto Carducci, Bolgheri, according to the will of Massimo Piccin, a Venetian engineer driven by a great passion for wine.
With a bold and visionary decision, a former farm with just a few rows of vines is transformed into a 25-hectare vineyard spread over 16 hectares in Bolgheri and 9 hectares in Bibbona. The company produces two labels, Sapaio and Volpolo, with the aim of becoming top wines in a unique region known worldwide.
