Tasting note:
The 2020 Breisacher Eckartsberg Pinot Noir from dry, sloping vineyards on weathered volcanic rock and with an east-west orientation opens up pure, intense, spicy and a little reductive on the nose. Based almost exclusively on German clones, this is a fresh, fruity, vital and fruit-intensive Pinot with ripe fruit flesh and fine, ripe tannins. Intense and firm, a complex Pinot Noir with good intensity and ripeness and an iodised finish.
Dr Heger Winery:
At the end of the 1980s, Joachim Heger began to produce Pinot Noir with a seriousness previously unknown in Germany. Over the decades that followed, his wines, both white and red, developed a terroir focus that was once again trend-setting. In the meantime, the daughters (4th generation) are increasingly taking over the management of the winery, and they too are now setting out to move forward: towards wines that appear lighter and fresher, without giving up seriousness and terroir reference. The new wines show how successful the sisters have already been on this path.
