75 cl
Falstaff: 93 points
Alcohol content: 13% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Vinification:
The Chardonnay from the young vines of the two top vineyards "Tatschler" and "Gloria" comes from the Leithagebirge.
Tasting note:
Leithakalk was composed of the Leitha Mountains and the lush limestone soils as the Chardonnay grapes come into their own particularly well on these soils. But that's not all, Burgenland has the advantage of the Pannonian climate in combination with the soils. Spicy flavours of yellow fruit, finesse and elegance paired with strength and suppleness on the palate. A harmonious food companion with a marvellous and mineral structure.
Kollwentz Winery:
Anton Kollwentz is considered one of the greats in Austrian viticulture. His son Andreas has been successfully following in his footsteps since 1993, and the modern winery in Grosshöflein has excellent vineyards. On 27 hectares, 25 of which are planted, the Kollwentz family strive for perfectly ripened grapes for their top-quality wines. Anton Kollwentz was the first to plant today's flagship of Burgendland, the Zweigelt vines, in 1958.
He is also responsible for Austria's first Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The father and son team primarily rely on the diverse soil conditions of the region. While Chardonnay thrives on limestone or slate, the Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow on silex.
The elaborate harvest is carried out by hand. Only fully ripe and healthy grapes reach the cellar, where they are sorted again. Vinification is carried out using traditional methods, with 80 - 90% of the wines fermenting spontaneously and at relatively warm temperatures. This results in wines that are less fruit-orientated but clearly more structured.
