Tasting note:
A fantastic Super Tuscan from Gaja. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Petit Verdot combine to create a fruity and spicy firework, paired with elegance and sensuality. Pure and intense aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, blackcurrants and eucalyptus on the nose. Perfectly integrated wood on the palate, smooth and fine in texture.
Ca'Marcanda:
Since 1996, Gaja has also owned a winery in Tuscany, where he has caused a sensation with wines such as Ca' Marcanda di Gaja Promis and Ca' Marcanda di Gaja Magari and further enhanced his reputation as a master of the terroir. The vineyards of Angelo Gaja's Ca' Marcanda di Gaja winery in the centre of Maremma cover almost 100 hectares of vineyards in the immediate vicinity of his winery.
The climate is characterised by a high intensity of sunshine, with temperatures rarely reaching extremely high levels, which greatly benefits the acidity and elegance of the grapes. The soils, dominated by limestone and clay, are only rich in minerals in the deeper layers, which severely limits yields, but at the same time leads to higher extract values.
