Vinification:

The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed to partially break up the berries.

VINIFICATION In temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. MALOCULTIC VINIFICATION Natural fermentation in barriques in November.

MATURING 15 months in 225 litre French oak barriques (30% new, 70% second use)

Tasting note:

Deep and dark ruby red colour, almost impenetrable. Intense nose of preserved blackberries, milk chocolate and oak. Brilliant on the palate, with a savoury fruit component, slightly spicy and powerful through to the juicy finish.

The ā€žIl Seggioā€œ Bolgheri Rosso DOC is a highly acclaimed red wine from the winery Poggio al Tesoro, named after the region’s main river (the Seggio).

Growing region: The wine is grown in the world-famous appellation Bolgheri DOC in the Tuscan Maremma, near the village of Castagneto Carducci.

Neighbourhood: The vineyards are situated in the immediate vicinity of legendary wineries such as Ornellaia.

Terroir: The hills slope gently down towards the Mediterranean. The maritime climate, with its cool sea breezes, and the mineral-rich soils shape the character of the grapes.

Winery: Poggio al Tesoro was founded in 2001.

Owner: The estate is owned by Marilisa Allegrini and the renowned family of winegrowers Allegrini, which originally comes from the Veneto region (known for Amarone).

Wine type: A classic, elegant Bordeaux blends in the Bolgheri tradition.

Grape varieties: The cuvƩe is made up of the following grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.

Removal: The wine is traditionally aged for 15 months in barriques made from French oak.

Aroma (nose): Intense and fresh aromas of dark wild berries, plums and cherries, underpinned by mineral notes, tobacco leaves, chocolate and a hint of precious wood.Ā 

Flavour (palate): The wine is medium- to full-bodied, juicy and well-defined. It is characterised by a very an elegant, silky tannin structure and exudes a harmonious freshness.Ā 

Departure: Powerful, clean and long-lasting, with a lovely fruity character.
