Vinification:

Matured for around 13-14 months in new French oak barrels and at least 24 months in the bottle.

Tasting note:

Sparkling, deep, dark ruby colour with violet shimmer. Intense and inviting nose, fine notes of sandalwood, some liquorice, lots of wild blueberries, earthy-balsamic components in the background. Juicy on the attack and on the palate, showing lots of fresh, well-developed fruit, blueberries and some blood orange, with a firm grip on the finish, lots of pressure in the aftertaste.

Donnafugata:

The name Donnafugata dates back to the 19th century and is a reminder that Queen Maria Carolina found refuge in the hilly area of Belice in Sicily after her expulsion by Napoleonic troops. The winery was founded by the Rallo family, who recognised the huge potential of the terroir early on.
