James Suckling: 91 points
Alcohol content: 13% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Grillo
Vinification:
The Grillo grape variety, a cross between Moscato and Cataratto, is partly harvested very early by the Regaleali winery in order to preserve freshness and minerality, and partly later in autumn to give it structure and body. The batches are fermented individually at a controlled temperature of 16°C in steel tanks. After blending, the wine is aged for a further four months - again in steel tanks - before being bottled.
Tasting note:
Light yellow with golden reflections. Cheerful and inviting on the nose. Notes of ripe citrus fruit, some exoticism, herbal nuances. Beautiful power and fullness on the palate. Expressive and finely balanced. Good finish with beautiful, aromatic persistence.
Tenuta Regaleali:
They are the undisputed Sicilian pioneers to whom the island's modern viticulture owes a great deal: the Conti Tasca d'Almerita, lords of the magnificent Tenuta Regaleali feudal estate. In addition to the imposing estate with livestock farming, arable farming, olives and viticulture, the empire includes four other tenuta: Tascante (in the Etna region), Capofaro (on the island of Salina), Sallier de La Tour (in the Monreale region) and the Fondazione Whitaker vineyards in Mozia (in the Marsala area).
Count Lucio, assisted by his sons Alberto and Giuseppe, manages this agricultural mosaic with prudence and expertise. The estate's wines, grown on a total of 360 hectares of vines in partly high vineyards at up to 900 metres above sea level, which are renowned for their freshness, impress with their diversity, silky elegance and Mediterranean charm. And last but not least, their excellent value for money.
