James Suckling: 94 points
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Vinifcation:
Fermentation in blond & medium toasted French barriques. Barriques with subsequent ageing (incl. bâtonnage) for 12 months without malolactic fermentation. Aged on the fine lees for 6 months in large oak barrels.
Tasting note:
The Chardonnay is characterised by stylish opulence, with lots of exotic fruit and delicate, highly refined roasted aromas. The complex bouquet is reminiscent of ripe citrus fruits, coconuts and a hint of vanilla. Extract and acidity form a delightful balance. The flavour is round, with velvety fruit and pleasantly integrated tannins. A multi-layered, elegant Chardonnay with great ageing potential.
Kurtasch Winery:
Kurtatsch: founded in 1900, 190 hectares of vineyards, 190 families - 1 strong team! Kurtatsch is one of the oldest winery co-operatives in Italy and looks back on a long tradition. The appreciation for the unique terroir in South Tyrol, the craftsmanship and the incredibly valuable experience in the vineyard are passed on from generation to generation. In this way, 190 families form a strong team that always remains one thing: familiar and down-to-earth. Outstanding wines are created in the vineyard.
That's why the members of the cooperative who do the work in the vineyard are the protagonists at Kurtatsch. For generations, they have had a special relationship with their own vineyard and know every single vine. This invaluable knowledge, coupled with the care taken in the cellar, provides the best conditions for the production of unique terroir wines full of character. Thanks to the 190 small-structured family businesses, which cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards in a sustainable manner, the best grape material can be selected according to location. The Kurtatsch winery stands for honest wines full of character with the ultimate goal: to bring the full potential of the unique vineyards into the bottle.
