Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: Garnacha, Syrah
Vinification:
Very low yields, selective harvesting by hand, temperature-controlled fermentation and maturation in large and small used wooden barrels, unfined and unfiltered.
Tasting note:
Martinet Bru - from the famous Mas Martinet winery - continues to enjoy great affection from the American wine press, who consistently put it on par with the first wine (even though it sells for less than half the price), and the wine remains one of the most sought-after second wines from famous wineries. From the deep purple colour, to the opulent bouquet of black cherries, cedar wood, blackcurrants and spices, to the voluminous mouthfeel ... everything here is in very great harmony with a mineral finish, as is typical of the very great wines and thus also fully committed to the Priorat origin.
Mas Martinet:
The Catalonian Priorat was rather tiny and so were the wines. José Luis Pérez, a university professor, made a significant contribution to the Priorat miracle in the 1980s. Together with his family, he founded the Mas Martinet Viticultors winery. They recultivated very old Garnacha and Cariñena vines according to the latest oenological criteria. They also planted Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah. Martinet Bru and Clos Martinet are wines from the first hour of the rebirth of the Priorat. In a very short space of time, they have achieved world renown with their modern personality.
With José Luis' daughter Sara Pérez, the second generation took over the helm. Sara inherited her father's uncompromising, rigorous pursuit of quality. The cultivation of the steep slate slopes at an altitude of eight hundred metres is very complex.
These uniquely exposed sites with old vines fundamentally distinguish Mas Martinet from many newcomers of recent years. The winery is a place of pilgrimage for many oenologists from all over the world. Robert Parker, puts Mas Martinet Viticultors in an exclusive light: "When you knock on the doors of different estates on your first visit to a wine region, there will always be one that stands out from the crowd. There will be one where the wine delights and stimulates the senses differently than elsewhere. One that is food for dreams, one that will be remembered for a long time to come. On this occasion, it was Mas Martinet.
