75 cl
Robert Parker: 93 points
Alcohol content: 13% vol.
Grape varieties: 70 % Chardonnay, 30% Sauvignon Blanc
Vinification:
As in all of Le Macchiole's vineyards, the vines are very dense and the yields per vine are low. The yield of white wine is one kilo per vine. After a short maceration period, the wine is pressed and half is aged in new barriques and half in one-year-old barriques.
Tasting note:
Le Macchiole not only produces great red wines, but also the Paleo Bianco, which was launched on the market in 1991. It is produced in extremely small quantities from Chardonnay and a little Sauvignon Blanc. Its strong Mediterranean character is characterised by intensity, flavour and depth in equal measure. A surprising wine, especially in terms of its ageing potential.
Le Macchiole:
The 22 hectares of vineyards are extremely densely planted with around 10,000 vines per hectare and are cultivated organically. The grapes are very strictly selected. From the very beginning, the aim of the management was to maximise the characteristics of the terroir in the individual subzones on their own land.
The Le Macchiole winery has received numerous top ratings from wine critics to date. For its many years of service, it was recognised as the best winery in Italy by the Associazione Italiana Sommelier (AIS) in 2009 and two years later by the magazine Wine Enthusiast crowned winery of the year.
