75 cl
Alcohol content: 13.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
Vinification:
The grapes for the Pouilly Fumé come from one of the best terroirs in the region: Kimmeridgian marl with small oysters (terres blanches). After harvesting, the grapes are gently pressed in the cellar and the juice obtained is left to rest for around 36 hours before alcoholic fermentation begins at a controlled temperature of 15-18°C. These careful steps preserve the unique flavours of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes and allow the wine to develop harmoniously. The wine then matures on the fine lees for a few months until it is bottled in the spring.
Tasting note:
The Pouilly Fumé has a clear, pale yellow colour and a fragrant nose of white flowers, subtle vegetal nuances and refreshing citrus peel. On the palate, it is direct and lively, characterised by impressive finesse and freshness. The wine reveals a beautiful minerality that lends the overall picture an elegant structure.
Vignobles Berthier:
Jean Marie Berthier has been cultivating around 9 hectares of land on the picturesque Domaine de Clairneaux vineyard near Sancerre since 1983. The Domaine de Montbenoit was added shortly afterwards, with a further 10 hectares in Côteaux de Giennois. The family tradition is now being carried on by sons Clément and Florian, who are as passionate about winegrowing as their father. Vignobles Berthier concentrates primarily on the cultivation of the Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir varieties. The exceptional quality of the wines results from the unique gravelly limestone soils along the world-famous banks of the Loire, which characterise the slopes of Sancerre and Giennois. Absolute top wines from one of the best regions in France, if not the world.
