Falstaff: 92 points
Alcohol content: 13 % vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Zweigelt
Vinifcation:
Spontaneous maceration in steel tanks at 30-32°C followed by malolactic fermentation. Maturation in French oak barriques and large wooden barrels.
Tasting note:
Intense aroma of cherries, dark berries, some mineral notes and a very fine spiciness on the nose; soft and full-bodied on the palate, round body and easy flowing, again beautiful fruit with a subtle chocolate aftertaste on the finish and a long finish.
Winery Markowitsch:
Gerhard Markowitsch is one of those exceptional talents who know how to produce exceptional wines. Through perfection in the vineyard, meticulous selection of the grapes and interaction with the latest technology, the likeable winemaker manages to refine his wines every year and further improve their quality.
Gerhard Markowitsch's wines are authentic, independent and accurately reflect the characters of local and international grape varieties. In 1999, Falstaff named him Winemaker of the Year; and his "Markowitsch M1" has just been awarded the full 100 points by Falstaff. His principles of patience, balance, character and technique have thus paid off in full. We are thrilled - not only by the variety, but also by the character of each individual wine. A particularly exciting producer who we will certainly be hearing a lot more about in the future.
