Tasting note:

Dark ruby-garnet colour, violet reflections, delicate watery rim. Delicate precious wood nuances, black forest berries, a hint of cassis and liquorice, fine tobacco nuances, spices, orange zest, still somewhat reserved. Complex, sweet cherries, well-integrated tannins, mineral and persistent, elegant style with a finely fruity finish, salty aftertaste, delicate liquorice in the finale, extremely harmonious, certainly development potential, but patience is still required.

Given the unusual weather conditions that affected the growth cycle of the vines, the strategic choices made by our team have resulted in a very great Château-Figeac. The 2019 vintage will remain a milestone in the history of Figeac, an absolutely exceptional wine characterised by balance, freshness and perfect maturity of the three grape varieties.

The Cabernets express themselves with wonderful floral aromas and fruity notes such as blueberry and Mara des Bois strawberry. A juicy and dense attack flows harmoniously into a flattering mid-palate, enveloped in the texture of our Merlots. The balance is maintained in an exceptionally long finish, in which the refined, mineral texture of the Cabernets is combined with the fruit-accentuated freshness.

Ready to drink from 2029 to 2065

Château Figeac is one of the most renowned wineries in Bordeaux and has held the coveted status of 1er Grand Cru Classé A in Saint-Émilion. It differs drastically from its neighbours due to its unique soil composition and its unusual blend of grape varieties.

Location and terroir

Geography: The estate is situated in the far north-west of the appellation Saint-Émilion, right on the border with the Pomerol region. In the immediate vicinity is the famous Château Cheval Blanc.

Floor: Figeac is situated on a unique, metre-deep Gravel plateau made of crystalline rock. This is complemented by blue clay in the subsoil, which retains moisture effectively.

The Manoncourt family: The winery has been located there since 1892 owned by the The Manoncourt family.

A defining figure: Continuity is upheld in the spirit of the legendary Thierry Manoncourt, who left a lasting mark on the estate from the 1950s onwards. Today, Madame Marie-France Manoncourt, together with the next generation, safeguards this legacy.

Style and characteristics

Unusual grape varieties: Whilst Merlot usually dominates in Saint-Émilion, the blend at Château Figeac around 35 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 % Cabernet Franc and just 30 % Merlot. Because of this high proportion of Cabernet, Figeac is often referred to as the „Médoc of the right bank“.

flavour profile: These wines are characterised by extreme elegance, refinement and balance. They typically feature delicate fruity notes (such as blackcurrant), subtle hints of paprika and toasted aromas, as well as a firm yet supple tannic structure.

Shelf life: Figeac wines have an exceptionally high ageing potential and only develop their full, complex bouquet after years or decades.
