Grape varieties: 97% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc
Tasting note:
The Laroque 2018 consists of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc, aged in 50% new barriques. It has an alcohol content of 14.5% and a pH of 3.48. It has a deep garnet-purple colour and exudes extravagant notes of stewed black plums, Black Forest gateau and boysenberries in the glass, as well as hints of candied violets, star anise and unsmoked cigars with a playful hint of sassafras. The medium to full body is packed with juicy black fruits, supported by soft tannins and plenty of freshness, and finishes long and fragrant.
Chateau Laroque:
The terroir is located on a plateau of chestnut-coloured and red clay over Asteria limestone with east-facing terraces and west-facing slopes of very chalky, fine bluish clay.
The vineyard extends over 61 hectares with old vines from massive selections - Merlot and Cabernet, which are over 50 years old.
