Tasting note:

Intense aromas of blackberries, plum jam and cinnamon, plus some coffee and vanilla from the barrique. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and powerful with plenty of extract, concentrated and dark berry fruit, sweetish flavour, integrated wood, full and warm on the long finish.

The Château Pierre 1er (known as until the 2013 model year) Château Croix Figeac) is a renowned winery in the appellation Saint-Émilion Grand Cru.
Note on classification:  The estate, no Premier Grand Cru Classé not in the sense of the official Saint-Émilion classification, but rather as Saint-Émilion Grand Cru classified.

Location and terroir
The estate comprises a contiguous area of 11 hectares in the north-west of the appellation, right on the border with the neighbouring Pomerol appellation. [1, 2
– Neighbourhood: The vineyards are situated directly opposite the world-famous Château Figeac
– Soil structure: The vines grow on a hilltop with excellent natural drainage. The soil consists of a high-quality combination of Clay, gravel and brown sand (brown sand on gravel). [1, 2, 3]
Owners and winemaking
The château has been in the family since 1984.
– Owner: Jean Dutruilh. A charming anecdote: until 1985, Dutruilh was among the very best in the world in the Ski World Cup mogul events. He later took over the estate from his father, Pierre, in whose honour he renamed the wine in 2014.
– Advice: When it comes to winemaking, the family has been supported for years by the world-famous Star oenologist Michel Rolland which lends the wines additional precision.

The vineyards have an average age of around 36 years and are planted with the classic varieties of the „Right Bank“:
– 80 % Merlot (adds body and smoothness)
– 20 % Cabernet Franc (provides structure and freshness)
Style and characteristics
Thanks to the combination of mature Merlot and Michel Rolland’s expert guidance, the wine displays a powerful, rich in extracts and modern yet accessible Profile.
– Aroma: The nose is dominated by intense notes of blackberries, plum jam and dark cherries. These are complemented by subtle spicy notes such as cinnamon and liquorice, as well as hints of coffee and vanilla from the barrique ageing.
– On the palate: The wine is full-bodied, powerful and concentrated. It has a sweet, fruity mouthfeel and soft, well-polished tannins. Despite its opulence, it retains an elegant freshness thanks to the Cabernet Franc component and finishes with a long, warm aftertaste.
– Ready to drink: It is remarkably approachable and harmonious even at a young age, yet clearly has the potential to develop beyond 10 to 20 years to mature in the cellar
