Tasting note:

This production of 45,000 bottles is expected to be released in early 2023. The Poggio al Tesoro 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Sondraia (a blend of 65 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 25 % Merlot and 10 % Cabernet Franc) makes excellent use of oak ageing, resulting in soft tannins, lush richness and attractive concentration. The wine is very well made overall, with plenty of black fruit balanced by spice and tobacco. Its important structure suggests a long ageing period.

The renowned winery Poggio al Tesoro was founded in 2001 and is owned by the famous family of winemakers Allegrini from Veneto. It is situated in the prestigious appellation Bolgheri in the Tuscan Maremma and is known for a precise, powerful and elegant A wine style of international calibre.

Region: The estate is situated in Bolgheri (municipality of Castagneto Carducci) in the province of Livorno.

Microclimate: The vineyards are situated just about 3 kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coast of the Mediterranean. They benefit from a constant sea breeze, which cools the grapes and keeps them healthy. The range of hills to the east provides additional protection for the vineyards.

Neighbourhood: Poggio al Tesoro is in excellent company and borders directly on the world-famous, iconic winery Ornellaia.

Single layers: The approximately 64 hectares of vineyards are spread across four distinctive terroirs: Via Bolgherese, Little Church of St Joseph, Le Sondraie and Cerbaia Valley.

Founded: The estate was acquired in 2001 by Marilisa Allegrini and her brother Walter, who has since passed away. It originally began as a partnership with the US importer Leonardo Lo Cascio.

Current leadership: Today, Marilisa Allegrini runs the prestigious winery together with her daughters Carlotta and Caterina Sofia. The family is bringing its decades of expertise in winegrowing from Valpolicella to Tuscany.

Grape varieties: The focus is on the classic Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, as well as a little Syrah. For the well-known white wine Solosole Vermentino is also grown there.

Wine style: The red wines combine the typical Strength and density ripe grapes from near the coast with a remarkable Freshness, complexity and elegance. They are regarded as being vinified with great precision and as having great depth.

Well-known wines: Among the estate’s flagship wines is the Bolgheri Superiore Sondraia, the single-varietal Cabernet Franc Dedicated to Walter as well as the cuvées Il Seggio and Mediterra.
