Falstaff: 94 points

Alcohol content: 12% vol.

Rebsorten: Riesling

Vinification:

10 monatiger Ausbau im Stahltank.

Tasting note:

Winery Schloss Ortenberg:

The Winery Schloss Ortenberg in Baden-Württemberg, with around 45 hectares of vineyards, is the Germany's largest municipal winery. It lies on the western slope of the Black Forest in the Ortenau holiday region. The local winegrowing tradition was founded in the year 1407. Since 2021, the historic estate has been run by the Althoff Hotel Group as a tenant.

Important features & specialities

The terroir: The vines thrive on barren, mineralised soil. Granite weathered soils. The climate offers warm days due to the Rhine Valley and cool nights due to winds from the Black Forest.

The grape varieties: The focus is on classic Baden varieties. These include Pinot Noir (Pinot Noir), Riesling (often referred to regionally as Klingelberger), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Modern flavours such as Sauvignon Blanc are also successfully cultivated.

Top locations: The best-known locations include the Ortenberg Castle Hill and the Andreasberg.

Awards: The estate celebrates great success. In the Falstaff Wine Guide the collection was developed under cellar master Hanspeter Rieflin as a „Collection of the year“ excellent.
