Robert Parker: 97 points
Alcohol content: 14 % vol.
Grape varieties: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 15% Sangiovese
Vinification:
Viticulture, which is based on environmentally friendly methods and principles, enables a spontaneous balance of production with low yields per hectare. The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully selected from vineyards with an average age of 25 years. The spontaneous fermentation takes place in open oak barrels, with gentle and repeated manual punching down, which allows a long maceration and a slow release of only the noble tannins. The wine was matured in barriques for 18 months and bottled in August 2022.
Tasting note:
The Grattamacco - a typical representative of its region of origin - opens up a wide range of nuances and flavour impressions.
The full-bodied wine always remains elegant. Fine bouquet with notes of black fruit, wild strawberry, tobacco, smoke, hints of coffee and complex spice flavours such as rosemary and pepper. The flavour is long-lasting, harmonious and wonderfully balanced. Very full-bodied on the palate, broad and yet with silky tannins. Lots of juicy freshness and a long, lingering finish round off this fine wine.
Podere Grattamacco:
The new owner of the winery is Cladudio Tipa, who also owns Colle Massari. The estate between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri has 14 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Vermentino and Sangiovese as well as three hectares of olive trees. Grattamacco has been one of the top wineries around Bolgheri for years.
Spoilt by plenty of sunshine, cooled by sometimes strong sea breezes and yet supplied with sufficient rain, Tuscan vines on barren limestone, clay and sandstone soils and various mixtures thereof produce outstanding qualities that wine lovers all over the world rave about.
