The Château Seguin is a long-established Bordeaux winery that is regarded by connoisseurs as an absolute hidden gem for top-class wines.

Origin of the name

The name harks back to the estate’s historical roots. Wine was already being produced on the estate as far back as the 19th century. In historical documents from that period, its quality was often ranked on a par with world-famous neighbours such as Château Haut-Brion was established before it was temporarily forgotten in the 20th century.

Location

Region: France, Bordeaux, Graves.

Appellation: Pessac-Léognan AOC.

Place: The estate is situated in the municipality Canéjan on the south-western outskirts of Bordeaux, right on the city boundary (Rocade).Terroir: The approximately 30 hectares of vineyards are situated on a prominent hill. The soil consists of a deep layer of gravel mixed with calcareous loam and silicates – a soil structure identical to that found at the appellation’s top estates.

Owner

The estate is owned by the The Darriet family (since 1987). The château is managed by Denis Darriet, who manages the winery with great attention to detail and has consistently focused on natural viticulture (the highest French environmental certification). The cellar master is Xavier Moragues.

Style

Focus: Unlike many of its neighbours, Château Seguin produces red wines only.

grape varieties: A typical Bordeaux blend, classically dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Character: The style combines the masculine density and structure of the Graves gravelly soil with an almost Burgundian elegance and finesse. Great importance is attached to precision, high planting density and spontaneous fermentation. The wine is matured traditionally in barriques for around 12 months.
