James Suckling: 94 points

Alcohol content: 12.5% vol.

Grape varieties: 100% Grüner Veltliner

Vinification:

Grapes from vines with an average age of 25 years from a top location at the foot of the mountain in Loiben with sandy loess and gneiss components; 100% hand-picked, short maceration period, ageing in large wooden barrels and in stainless steel tanks for 3 months on the fine lees.

Tasting note:

Light yellow-green colour. Ripe apple fruit, delicate hints of passion fruit, underlaid with a little blossom honey, hints of candied lime zest. Juicy, elegant, fine acidity structure, mineral, a hint of peach, spicy finish, lingers well, versatile food companion.

Emmerich Knoll:

The Emmerich Knoll winery in Unterloiben is one of Austria's best-known wine estates. The traditional label enjoys a similar cult status in wine connoisseur circles as the wines themselves. Emmerich Knoll is no friend of fleshy, exuberant wines. Dense wines that show strength in a condensed form without going overboard - that is the credo of this top winery. Emmerich Knoll and his equally wine-loving son Emmerich Junior cultivate around 45 % each of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner on the 14 hectares of top vineyards Schütt, Loibenberg, Kellerberg, Kreutles and Pfaffenberg, with Chardonnay, Gelber Muskateller, Rivaner, Blauburgunder and, for some years now, Gelber Traminer sharing the remaining 10 per cent.
