Falstaff: 96 points
Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Cabernet Franc
Vinification:
A selection of the best plots in the vineyard. The grapes are destemmed by hand and the must remains in contact with its own yeasts for approx. 20 days. Maturation for 15 months in French oak barriques.
Tasting note:
Deep, intense ruby red with violet reflections; fresh, spicy nose; very juicy and pure on the palate, with notes of cassis, blackberries. Leather and fresh herbs.
Piaggia:
The Piaggia winery is one of the top producers in the province of Prato
Today, the sustainably farmed estate covers a total of 25 hectares of vineyards, from which you can enjoy a marvellous view over the city of Florence. The vines are situated at an altitude of 50 to 300 metres in the immediate vicinity of the village of Carmignano. Protected by the Apennines and the Montalbano hill, this growing area has an ideal climate in which both Sangiovese and French grape varieties thrive.
The Vannucci family owes Piaggia's current success in part to its long-standing collaboration with oenologist Emiliano Falsini and consultant Alberto Antonini. For the well-coordinated team, sustainable work in the vineyard is a top priority, which is why the vines are pruned and harvested by hand every year in a time-consuming process.
