James Suckling: 94 points
Alcohol content: 15% vol.
Grape varieties: 100% Carignano
Vinification:
Matured for two years in French barriques, followed by one year in the bottle.
Tasting note:
Terre Brune is a 100%iger Carignano from Cantina Santadi with a seductive balance and fruitiness and is one of Sardinia's best reds every year. Matured in barriques, it shows fresh but ripe fruit on the nose with a slight hint of cocoa. On the palate, it has a beautiful depth with present tannins. An exemplary wine vinified with love and full of regional typicity.
Cantina Santadi:
The Cantina di Santadi was founded in 1960 when a group of winegrowers in Sardinia came together with the aim of processing their grapes together and selling the wine jointly. This is how the winery was founded in Santadi, in south-west Sardinia, in the heart of the Sulcis region.
For the first 20 years of its existence, the winery limited itself to the production and sale of open wines and the name Santadi was simply not known outside of Sardinia. In the mid-1970s, the new board of directors, led by the current chairman Antonello Pilloni, slowly brought about a turnaround. He led the winery to worldwide recognition and created well-known brands such as Rocca Rubia and Terre Brune.
