Alcohol content: 16% vol.

Grape varieties: 100 % Barbera

Vinification:

15 months in new French barriques.

Tasting note:

Very intense purple-red colour with a ruby-red shimmer. Sensual and richly scented on the nose, with notes of wild berries and fine wood, accompanied by vanilla, liquorice, cocoa and a hint of black pepper. Complex and powerful on the palate, intense red and dark berries, fine roasted flavours, lots of melting, present and juicy tannins. A wine that is elegant and sensual despite its concentration. Very long-lasting finish.

The legendary Piedmontese winery Braida is world-famous for revolutionising the Barbera grape variety and is characterised by the following features:

Origins & Core Values: The winery has its origins and is headquartered in Rocchetta Tanaro, in the province of Asti, in the heart of the Piedmont, Italy.

Vineyards: The vineyards stretch across renowned cru sites in the Monferrato region.

Extension: For its white wine project, the estate also utilises higher-altitude vineyards (up to 450 metres above sea level) in the Alta Langa, to make the most of the cool nights.

The iconic founder: The winery was founded by Giacomo Bologna in 1961. The name „Braida“ comes from his father Giuseppe’s nickname.

Current leadership: Following Giacomo’s death, his children, who were trained oenologists, took over Raffaella and Giuseppe („Beppe“) Bologna, the management.

Support: The siblings are successfully running the family business together with their mother, Anna, and Raffaella’s husband, Norbert Reinisch.

The Barbera pioneer: Giacomo Bologna achieved the „miracle“ of liberating the Barbera grape from its status as a tart, everyday wine. He transformed it into a fine grape variety prized worldwide.

Vinification: The style is characterised by austere Yield limit in the vineyard and the innovative Ageing in French barriques. This gives the wines structure, smoothness and ageing potential.

Wine structure: The wines strike a masterful balance between Tradition and Innovation. They are full-bodied, powerful and complex, yet always retain the characteristic, lively freshness and fruitiness of the Barbera grape.

Cult wine: The flagship and the very embodiment of this style is the world-famous, cult Barbera „Bricco dell’Uccellone“.
