Tasting note:
The 2020 de la Huste has a deep purple-black colour and exudes extravagant notes of crushed blackberries, blueberry pie and ripe black raspberries in the glass, as well as hints of violets, mocha and liquorice. The palate is full of juicy black and blue fruits, framed by ripe, rounded tannins and impressive freshness, with a long, perfumed finish. A beautiful powerhouse!
The Château de la Huste is a small, long-established winery in the famous Bordeaux region, on the right bank of the Dordogne.
Region: The vineyard is situated in the appellation Fronsac in France, north-west of Libourne.
Parish: The vineyards are situated in the municipality Saillans.
Orientation: The vineyards stretch across slopes and plateaus, ideally oriented towards South/South-east.
Floor: The terroir consists of calcareous loam over a characteristic layer of fossil-rich asterite limestone.
Owner: This historic estate has been owned by the The Rullier family.
Management: The estate is currently managed by Brigitte Rullier-Loussert together with her son Charles, who also own the renowned Château Dalem belongs to.
Counselling: For the winemaking process, the winery employs the internationally renowned oenologist Éric Boissenot in addition.
grape varieties: The vineyard, covering around 8 hectares, is planted predominantly with Merlot, typically comprising around 90–95% Merlot and 5–10% Cabernet Franc.
Wine style: The wine is aged for 12 to 15 months in barriques (some of which are new). The result is a modern, expressive Bordeaux:
Colour: A dark, intense ruby-garnet colour with violet highlights.
Flavour: Rich notes of dark berries (blackberries, blueberries) and black cherries, often accompanied by hints of mocha, liquorice and delicate floral notes.
Flavour: A velvety „powerhouse“ on the palate, with ripe, rounded tannins, good balance and a lively freshness.
