Vinification:
Alcoholic fermentation with wild yeasts in 10,000 litre wooden vats. Maturation of the young wine for 18 months in mostly used barriques made from Allier, Nevers and Tronçais oak. Subsequent maturation in the bottle for a further 18 months.
Tasting note:
The Cuvée Petra is a Bordeaux blend of the Merlot (70 %) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30 %) varieties. It was first pressed in 1997. The wine is fermented with its own yeasts in 10,000 litre wooden vats. The wine is matured for 18 months in mostly used barriques (Allier, Nevers, Tronçais) and it takes another 18 months before the first bottles are released. The Petra has a rich, complex aroma reminiscent of wild berries and tar. The Merlot grape contributes a spicy note, while the juicy fullness comes from the Cabernet Sauvignon. A red wine of aromatic density and fleshy texture.
Petra:
The Petra vineyard has a range of microclimates, with mostly little rain, lots of sun and strong south-westerly winds. The soils are also very different. At Petra, everything resonates in harmony and aims to define a unique style that is able to bundle the strengths of the terroir and transform them into wine.
In the cellar, it is human sensitivity that makes the difference. All these elements give rise to Petra's wines, which are able to take the threads of the past and weave them into a modern fabric.
