75 cl
Alcohol content: 14% vol.
Grape varieties: 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Sangiovese, 5 % Petit Verdot
Vinfication:
The wine is grown from vineyards at an altitude of 100 to 200 metres above sea level. The soils consist of quartz sandstone, clay with marl limestone, flysch and red sand. The climate is temperate Mediterranean with frequent sea breezes. The viticulture, based on methods and principles that fully respect the environment, allows a spontaneous production of grapes that is never excessive, an essential reason to guarantee the authentic expression of the area of origin. The grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards with an average age of 24 years. Fermentation took place in steel vats and ageing continued for 8 months in barriques. The wine will be bottled in August 2022.
Tasting note:
The Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso DOC presents itself with a bouquet of fresh red and dark fruits paired with notes of prunes, chocolate and tobacco. On the palate, Grattamacco Bolgheri Rosso DOC has an opulent concentration of fruit, melting with flavours of dark fruit and cloves. Fine but noticeable tannins, fine-meshed tannins perfectly advanced. Grattamacco's entry-level wine shows impressively where this winery is heading. The advantage of this wine is that it can be drunk young, whereas it is advisable to wait a few years before opening and savouring the top wines.
Podere Grattamacco:
The new owner of the winery is Cladudio Tipa, who also owns Colle Massari. The estate between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri has 14 hectares of vineyards planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Vermentino and Sangiovese as well as three hectares of olive trees. Grattamacco has been one of the top wineries around Bolgheri for years.
Spoilt by plenty of sunshine, cooled by sometimes strong sea breezes and yet supplied with sufficient rain, Tuscan vines on barren limestone, clay and sandstone soils and various mixtures thereof produce outstanding qualities that wine lovers all over the world rave about.
