Grape varieties: 42% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 15.5% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Sangiovese and 1% Alicante
Tasting note:
This wine is a blend of seven grapes - 42% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 15.5% Syrah, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 4.5% Sangiovese and 1% Alicante. In this vintage, the proportion of Cabernet Franc is somewhat higher than usual. The bouquet presents a beautiful first wave of dark fruit that pushes the boundaries of ripeness but remains safely in the realm of elegance.
The flavours are balanced and focused with blackberry, cassis and slight hints of salty or rusty mineral. The wine is not too contrived or big in the mouth, rather it shows a delicate level of elegance that absolutely seals the deal.
Caiarossa:
Caiarossa is located near the village of Riparbella, a few kilometres from the sea. The estate has 100 hectares, 37 of which are planted with vines. The 60 plots - on which 7 red and 4 white varieties are cultivated - are differentiated according to soil type, altitude and exposure.
Since 2004, the estate has been owned by the Albada Jelgersma family, who have been active in the wine world since the 1970s and also own Château Giscours in Margaux. While biodynamics take centre stage in the vineyard, the inspiration in the cellar comes from the oriental discipline of Feng Shui.
