Alcohol content: 14.5% vol.
Grape varieties: 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot
Vinification:
The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed to partially break up the berries.
VINIFICATION In temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. MALOCULTIC VINIFICATION Natural fermentation in barriques in November.
MATURING 15 months in 225 litre French oak barriques (30% new, 70% second use)
Tasting note:
Deep and dark ruby red colour, almost impenetrable. Intense nose of preserved blackberries, milk chocolate and oak. Brilliant on the palate, with a savoury fruit component, slightly spicy and powerful through to the juicy finish.
Poggio al Tesoro:
The vineyards of Poggio al Tesoro are located in four different areas: Via Bolgherese, Chiesina di San Giuseppe, Le Sondraie and Valle di Cerbaia, each of which is characterised by significant pedoclimatic differences. The soil types, location and exposure, combined with the choice of grape varieties cultivated, result in grapes with different characteristics and strong personalities.
Planting of the vineyards began in 2003 and new plots are still being added every year. Some of the most important vineyards in the Bolgheri region are located along the Strada Bolgherese, surrounded by majestic oaks and centuries-old olive trees. This part of the appellation is known locally as Soprastrada and is considered the area from which the best wines come, characterised by the greatest complexity and elegance in terms of quality.
