Tasting note:
With its typical Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, the Saffredi is exactly what has become famous as a super Tuscan. The nose shows ripe black fruit with hints of red, black cherry, a touch of blueberry, dense, rich and creamy on the nose. A voluminous cassis fruit with blackberry spice and black cherry spreads out on the palate. Full-bodied, rich, mouth-filling and with a fine liquorice sweetness at the core. Dark plum, fresh fig, dark chocolate and lavender join in. The fruit is lush but elegant and extremely polished, the balance is there, the freshness counterbalances the richness right through to the finely salted finish and keeps the wine's stately texture in balance. A Bordelais Grand Cru with a turbocharger from Tuscany.
Fattoria Le Pupille:
The founder of Le Pupille, Elisabetta Gepetti, is not only the visionary of viticulture in Maremma, the southern part of Tuscany, but also a passionate ambassador for the region. The energetic winemaker was instrumental in founding the Morellino di Scansano Consortium in 1992 and subsequently became the first woman ever to be president of an Italian wine consortium.
Of the 420 hectares of the Le Pupille estate, 75 hectares are dedicated to vineyards. On the rest, the original landscape of olive trees, wheat fields and forests is maintained. Le Pupille bottles around half a million bottles. You can be sure of the exceptional quality across all price categories.
