Tasting note:

»Am Berg« is Adank’s rare, top-quality Chardonnay. Shaped by sparse limestone soil and a cool microclimate, it is harvested by hand, fermented spontaneously in barriques and bottled unfiltered. Delicately reductive on the nose, with aromas of peach, pear and citrus fruits; peppery and spicy, underpinned by notes of smoke, bread crust, hazelnuts and white blossoms. Dense on the palate, concentrated, salty and mineral, with vibrant freshness and a long, elegant finish. Pure balance and enormous ageing potential – a quiet giant with Burgundian DNA.

Adank Winery:

‚Vines and wine are our passion, our motivation. We love the craft, the varied tasks that unfold throughout the seasons. In winter, when we lay the foundations for the coming vintage by pruning the vines under the clear skies of the Bündner Herrschaft. In summer, when the dewdrops glisten on the vine leaves as we prune the foliage in the morning. And especially in autumn: that’s when we pick the grapes with the harvest team – here, by the way, we call it «wimmle».”.

Experience and craftsmanship are perfectly attuned to the Fläscher terroir. Rich in limestone and, depending on the site, enriched with clay and loam, these well-drained, warm slate soils shape our wines. But it is the microclimate that makes the Fläscher terroir perfect: in autumn, the sky above the Bündner Herrschaft is usually a deep blue and the air feels like silk. Then the Föhn sweeps through the regions along the Alpine Rhine. It dries the dew from the grapes, and its warmth adds the finishing touch to the ripening of the berries. However hot it may get during the day, towards evening cool downdrafts sweep down from the Fläscher Berg through the vines, ensuring a balanced acidity.‘

Our values, our work: ‚Adank Winery‘

Adank Weine is a family-run winery, and it goes without saying that we tackle all tasks together. Our strength lies in the size of our small team. Mutual respect and a willingness to listen to the ideas and visions in our minds are what drive our wines forward. Honest craftsmanship, sustainability and time form the cornerstones of our philosophy. Time that we take to make the right decisions, and time that we allow the wines to reach their full potential. Craftsmanship built on the experience we gain day after day in the cellar and in the vineyards. Sustainability that we live by: our soils should be passed on to the next generation as diverse and as rich in biodiversity as possible.

Bündner Herrschaft:

Often referred to as the "Burgundy of Switzerland", this wine-growing region regularly produces top wines that enjoy worldwide recognition. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are particularly noteworthy.

80 per cent of the vineyards in the Bündner Herrschaft (approx. 400 hectares) are planted with red grape varieties, mainly Pinot Noir, which thrives particularly well on the limestone and slate soils of the Herrschaft. The conditions for Pinot Noir are absolutely outstanding. Permeable gravel, sand and slate soils, interspersed with limestone, prevail here.

The topography is ideal, and the high day-night temperature differences further enhance the elegance of the wines. During the day, the weather in the Herrschaft is characterised by plenty of sunshine and often strong foehn winds. This allows the grapes to ripen perfectly, but at night it gets quite cold due to the downdraughts from the mountains, with high temperature differences to the hot days. The berries retain their acidity thanks to this night-time coolness and the wines are not too rich.

Due to this special microclimate, Herrschäftler Pinot Noirs appear somewhat cooler than those of Burgundy, are racier and finer and less full and dense.
