The intensity of the colour in red wines usually comes from the grape skin, as very few grape varieties have red pulp. On the intense side of the colour scale is Cabernet Sauvignon which is typically thicker and darker skinned and therefore the wine has an intense, dark colour and on the other hand Pinot Noir which has a delicate red colour due to thinner and lighter skins.
